Akkerman Finland Oy Applies for Two New Exploration Permits

Akkerman Finland is expanding its Central Finland VMS project with 2 exploration permit applications. Both are located in the Vihanti-Pyhäsalmi mining district.

The 2 areas are named Kurpas and Kaskela and cover near-surface massive sulphide mineralisation discovered by Outokumpu in the 1960’s. Studies to date have outlined copper and zinc mineralisation over a length of several hundred meters in both areas.

With these new permits, the company has strengthened its land position in the district, including 8 prospects:

Kolima, Kangasjärvi, Hallaperä, Lehto, Lippikylä, Rauhala, Kurpas and Kaskela

Massive sulphide mineralisation is present in each of these, as demonstrated by previous studies covering the first few hundred meters below the surface.

Akkerman Finland’s approach is to test the deeper, unexplored parts of these systems, targeting hidden copper-zinc-sulphide deposits, like the 34 Mt “Deep Ore” between the mine levels 1050 to 1450 m of the closed Pyhäsalmi Mine.

Apart from conventional exploration, the company plans to use innovative geophysical survey techniques. These include drone-based electromagnetic (EM) and muography, which uses naturally occurring cosmic-ray muons to image density variations in the subsurface and help constrain dense mineralisation at depth, combined with 3-D data integration and modelling.

Jan Akkerman comments, “I strongly believe new economic massive sulphide deposits remain to be discovered in this famous mining district. As one of the few companies active in the area since 2020, we have been able to generate several promising targets ready for drill testing. We are now actively seeking strategic partners to fund the next phase and help secure new feed for the maintained Pyhäsalmi processing plant.
