Akkerman Finland Oy (AFOy) announces a drilling plan to test two promising targets at its Kangasjärvi VMS Project in Central Finland.
The targets are strong electromagnetic (EM) anomalies. They are located in the vicinity of the historic Kangasjärvi zinc deposit, mined in open-pit by Outokumpu Oy in the mid-1980’s. The purpose of the drilling is to determine the cause of these anomalies which were discovered by AFOy during a helicopter-supported, deep-penetrating EM survey. One of the possible causes of the anomalism is the presence of a massive copper-zinc-lead-silver deposit at one or both of these locations. If so, it could turn Kangasjärvi into a major volcanogenic mineral system extending over an area of several square kilometers.
Local company Nivalan Timanttikairaus Oy has been contracted to carry out the drilling. Mobilization is scheduled for the first week of October. The initial campaign involves 3-4 holes with a total of 1.000m and will take about a month to complete.
The position of the first two holes relative to the EM targets is shown in Figure 1. Results obtained will determine the location of follow-up holes 3 and 4.
Facilities for logging and sampling of the drill core will be rented from Pyhäsalmi Mine Oy at Ruotanen village, some 35km north of the drill sites.
“With financing and all necessary permits in place, we are very exited to start this crucial phase in our aim to find the next copper deposit in Finland”, says Jan Akkerman, managing the drilling campaign.
