Akkerman Finland Oy (AFOy) expands landholdings in the Pyhäsalmi Mining district with a new reservation, KKS (VA2025-0043). The reservation covers 18,6 km2 over three sites with VMS-style mineralisation (Figure 1): Kurpas, Kaskela and Sirviö.
Figure 1. Regional setting of the KKS Project area (orange) relative to the Pyhäsalmi deposit (mine) and distribution of the prospective volcano-sedimentary sequence (in grey).
Near-surface studies carried out by GTK in the 1980s revealed copper-zinc mineralisation in massive sulphide horizons extending over several hundred meters. Best drill intercepts include:
Prospect | Width (m) | Cu Grade (%) | Zn Grade (%) |
Kurpas | 1.0 | 2.4 | – |
2.0 | 1.2 | – | |
0.2 – 0.8 | – | 2-8 | |
Kaskela | 5.1 | – | 6.1 |
1.5 | – | 8.8 | |
0.7 | 2.4 | – |

Follow-up exploration by Outokumpu Oy and former Belvedere Resources Ltd aimed at potential extensions did not yield the hoped-for results, and work was discontinued. As a result, these three prospects have remained unattended over the past 20 years.
Importantly, the deeper part (>200m) of the fertile volcano-sedimentary sequence has remained completely untested. AFOy plans to screen the depth potential with the latest geophysical techniques, including airborne deep-EM and detailed magnetics.
Meanwhile, the company is reaching out to numerous other companies involved in base-metal exploration to attract a joint venture partner for its entire VMS program in the Vihanti-Pyhäsalmi VMS belt. As part of this campaign, management from both Akkerman Exploration and Avrupa Minerals will be attending the upcoming FEM2025 Conference in Levi, Finland from the 28th through the 30th of October. AFOy welcomes inquiries concerning the program, and will be open for meetings concerning potential partnerships.
